Ashes of Time
Program for the 18th FFS
The Films from the South Festival is hosting the greatest assembly of films in Europe from Asia, Africa and Latin America. The program is now released. Read the Festival Director's proud comments. Festival Director Lasse Skagen states the following about this year’s programme: "Our film menu is much larger than a film lover can digest in the course of ten days. But due to a much clearer division of the programme this year, it should be easier to spot the goodies within each category – the individual films that will appeal to your heart and mind. For example, both music films and documentaries have received their own place within the diverse menu."Our main focus this year is on Brazil. We will screen eleven Brazilian contemporary films. Lots of films are produced in Brazil and the striking thing about many is the freshness of their cinematic language, a will to experiment with genre combinations and to explore unusual subjects. During the last year, our Head of Programming Julie Ova has been following a fascinating development, marked by directors concerned with contemporary times. This year’s opening film is Another Love Story by Brazilian director Lúcia Murat.
Another focus this year is on the young and innovative cinema of Mexico. One feature of Mexican cinema is a growing scene of young filmmakers. The works of this new generation are uncompromising and their main ingredients are a formal awareness and playfulness.
