A plant is everything that Kuete Fabrice’s parents can lower down into the earth as a last farewell to their son. Like a number of other Cameroonian families, they are surviving family members of victims of the havoc created by the special unit of the police and military (Operational Command Unit), which in 2000 was created by the President to fight organised crime. The unit was welcomed in its time and even had a free phone number to call to inform on one’s neighbour. In this confrontational documentary, bereaved families, lawyers and journalists tell a completely different story, however – the story of how thousands of innocent men were taken from their homes and brutally murdered, about a parodic trial and about incomprehensible violence and inconceivably closed eyes. mm
