Inspired by Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America, director Alexi Tai has set his film’s hardboiled action in 1930s Shanghai. The village brothers Kang, Fu and Hu do not find life in the provinces exciting enough and decide to seek their fortunes in the big city. This is a period drama in high style – gangster romanticism with slick scenography, thorough recreation of the era, delicious images and a visual brilliance that puts most other films to shame. Blood Brothers is a feast for the eyes. ls

Filmen følger tidskoloritten veldig bra, men filmen ble nok litt for hul og enkel for min del. Ble dessverre også litt klisjeefylt, hvor den ene av vennene blir den harde og tøffe, den ene den litt dumme og den siste den samvittighetsfulle. Å ha inspirasjonskilder er vel og bra, men det fungerer ikke alltid fullt ut. Men absolutt ingen dårlig film.

Helt grei versjon av standard mafiafilm vi har sett mange ganger før.
