Helena and Sebastian live together with their mother who is ill with cancer. Helena has given up her youth to care for her mother but dreams about one day travelling to the English-speaking world. Sebastian lives in a strictly catholic school with few opportunities for indulgence. When Sebastian falls in love with Juan, he turns his back on the responsibilities at home and escapes into a secret world. When his mother later dies, reality is turned upside down for the siblings and they are thrown headlong into a dramatic struggle to try to find a new stability in a chaotic life, torn between responsibility and dream, guilt and love.
