The film follows the band on a strenuous journey, from practicing under the open sky in Kinshasa to a CD release and world tour. Papa Ricky is the street children’s fatherfigure and the band’s driving force. Like several other band members, he is a born Congolese star – a cripple armed with talent and optimism. When documentary filmmakers Renaud Barret and Florent de la Tullaye introduce Roger, a virtuoso, to Papa Ricky, they create musical history. "I'll do great things with this instrument", the boy says. The instrument he is refering to is a simple version of an African banjo – a tin box attached to a stick by a length of fishing line. lj
