A surreal, stylish thriller from the creative mind of the Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar. The Forbidden Door blends elements of psychologial horror and dark surrealism in the vein of David Lynch, but stands out in its own originality. The films protagonist gets involved in a strange mystery when he starts seeing the words ”help me” all around him. This leads him to a mysterious private club, and ultimately a disturbing discovery. With a plot reminicent of Alfred Hitchcock, Anwar’s eye for details and visual storytelling makes this a truly atmospheric and suspensful film. Trond Johansen
