This year’s main prizewinner from the Berlinale is a beautiful and moving story about a young boy and his strong relationship with his father. Yusuf is in his first year of school and struggles with a difficult stutter. As a result he prefers to stay silent, except with his dad, who understands the secret of whispering. Early on in the film we get a sense that the action is moving toward tragedy, making the picturesque beauty of the family story even more poignant. Honey is the last film in Kaplanoglus trilogy about Yusuf’s life, told in reverse order. The previous Egg and Milk, have both been screened at Films from the South previous years. bb
