The destruction of the "happy family" is a typical motif for erotic thrillers like La cérémonie and Fatal Attraction, and Sang-soo Ims remake of Kim Ki-youngs classic is no exception, with its fruity combination of Hitchcockian suspense and melodramatic soap opera within the framings of a bourgeois house. Sang-soos version skates more on the surface than the original and is more conventional in its narration, but the wonderful cinematography and poignant black humour more than compensates for this.
