The destruction of the "happy family" is a typical motif for erotic thrillers like La cérémonie and Fatal Attraction, and Sang-soo Ims remake of Kim Ki-youngs classic is no exception, with its fruity combination of Hitchcockian suspense and melodramatic soap opera within the framings of a bourgeois house. Sang-soos version skates more on the surface than the original and is more conventional in its narration, but the wonderful cinematography and poignant black humour more than compensates for this. Questions of class and gender roles don't have more entertaining answers than this. Lars Ole Kristiansen
