Based on the book by the same name, this is the story of President Lula, from his birth in 1945 until his mother's death in 1980. Fábio Barreto develops a sequence of melodramatic scenes, in which Lula's character is revealed with a degree of complexity. The filmmaker supported Lula in both of his elections but claims to have obtained the funding for the film without financial aid from the government. None the less, Lula, Son of Brazil has been criticized by the national press because of its release in an electoral year, in which Lula is hoping to have his successor elected president. red
