Clemente is a pawnbroker in a rather run-down part of Lima. He interacts with society mainly through his money lending and his visits to the local brothel. Then one day he discovers an abandoned baby on his front steps, and everything changes. The baby’s mother turns out to be one of Clemente’s regular encounters at the brothel, who has gone missing, and Clemente grudgingly has to assume responsibility for the baby. The Vega brothers are inspired by Jarmusch, Kaurismäki and Bresson, amongst others, and make their feature debut with a curiously warm film filled with everyday comical moments that are perfectly underplayed. The month of October is a time of miracles in Peru, and October is a film filled with little miracles of its own. akek
