Cuba has dominated boxing in the Olympic Games ever since the dictatorship was overthrown in 1959. At the heart of the success lies the systematic development the boxers go through from childhood, when young boys from poor families are enrolled in boarding schools dedicated to training champions. In the documentary Sons of Cuba we follow three eleven-year olds from the Havana Boxing Academy towards the annual Cuban championship. Cristian Martinez is their brightest hope and along with his teammates he dreams of defeating their arch-rivals the Matanzas. hh
