Returning to Afghanistan ten years after the invasion turns out to be a disheartening experience for director Pål Hollender. When he visited the country a decade ago, he got to know the hopeful nine-year old Ali. Now, Hollender travels back to a country torn to pieces by war to search for the boy without knowing whether or not he’s still alive. Finding Ali is a film about the Afghan people after the invasion, a strong portrayal of the deeply felt anger, disappointment and frustration directed towards the broken promises of peace and development offered by NATO and the USA. Hollender has an unsentimental perspective and does not focus on the soldiers and the war, but on the people who must live with the consequences of it. th
