As a genre, 'road movie' is cluttered with somewhat clammy stereotypes. Strenuous forces of nature, various manifestations of male bonding and all possible variants of individuals trying to find themselves. Basically, Las Acacias is all that: a road movie with a lot of scenery, lots of emotions and scarce dialogue. Yet this is a movie that touches you deep inside the heart in all its simplicity. The film won several awards during the festival in Cannes this year with its beautiful and intimate portrayal of genuine human relationships.

Rubén is transporting timber from Paraguay to Argentina, a routine trip of 1500 km. But this trip will be different. He picks up a fellow traveler, a young woman who is going to Buenos Aires. Jacinta brings along her five-month-old baby, Anahi. It all begins as a rather uncomfortable journey, where Ruben and Jacinta barely exchange two words with each other, but Anahi gradually melts both the viewer’s and Ruben’s hearts. As the contours of the Buenos Aires appears on the horizon, no one would like the trip to end just yet… akek
