Kinyarwanda
Hope, redemption and religious tolerance in the midst of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. During the unimaginable horrors that took place, the country’s most respected Mufti issued a fatwa banning Muslims to participate in the killings of Tutsis. While the country was transformed into a slaughterhouse, mosques became places of refuge where both Christians and Muslims, Hutus and Tutsis, came to seek protection. Kinyarwanda is based on true stories from those who survived. The focus is on the individual characters and their relations to each other but the horrific massacres cast a heavy shadow over their strong stories. To deal with the traumas of the past the survivors look towards a Rwandan future of peace and reconciliation. red
