Urzula Barba Hopfner
Urzula Barba Hopfner is a Mexican director, writer, and producer with over two decades of experience in film, television, and documentary editing. She made her directorial debut with Corina, her first feature as writer and director.
Corina has been acclaimed for its intimate perspective, refined visual style, and balance of humor and emotional depth. The film premiered at the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), winning Best Feature “Hecho en Jalisco”, and went on to screen at major festivals including SXSW (Audience Award), Shanghai (Audience Award), Tallinn Black Nights, Los Cabos, and GIFF (Press Award). It received nine Ariel Award nominations, including Best First Feature, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, establishing Urzula as a distinctive and sensitive voice in contemporary Mexican cinema.
A 2025 BerlinAiR (Nipkow Programm / Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg) resident, Urzula bridges her creative work between Mexico and Europe, building a personal and visually resonant body of work.
