30 Minutes on Salsa
Ahead of the screening of SALSA LIVES on the 8th of November we invite you to a salsa-talk between melomaniacs Reyes Santiago Rojas and Ana María Ramírez, both Colombians.
Through music, images and other visual traces, we will follow the routes through which salsa became not only a musical genre, but a living record of a long history of identity construction and cultural resistance. As a journey of sounds and memories travelling across seas, we will see how salsa can be addressed as a sonic archive of cultural encounters: an assemblage where Latin American and the multiple diasporic identities that converge within it are remembered, contested and reimagined.
From the histories of the transatlantic slave trade to the urban soundscape of Bad Bunny’s, we will trace salsa as a living archive of migration and cultural encounter.
