The Official Story
In this 1985 Oscar winner, a teacher sets out to find the biological mother of her adoptive daughter during the final months of Argentina’s military dictatorship in 1983.
Alicia is a respected history teacher living a safe middle-class life with her husband Roberto, a lawyer closely tied to the authorities, and their five-year-old adopted daughter Gaby. When Alicia reconnects with a childhood friend who was arrested and tortured because of her relationship with a leftist activist, she begins to suspect that Gaby is one of the children stolen from the desaparecidos – the disappeared political prisoners who were killed.
