Alice's House

The aging and half-blind Dona Jacira is a maid and grandmother in Alicia’s and Lidomar’s cramped apartment at the outskirts of Sao Paulo. Alicia’s three testoterone-infected sons require much more room than the one they have to their disposal. The taxi driver Lidomar has developed an apetite for teenage girls in his old age. And Alice is polishing more and more nails at the beauty salon where she works. Only Dona Jacira sees where things are heading: straight to hell.

The established documentary director Teixeria masterly succeeds in capturing the details of a family on the edge of an abyss, in a sad and thought-provoking film about self-centredness and loneliness, and lack of love and communication. ls
