Antonia

Four young Brazilian women, Preta, Barbarah, Mayah and Lena, live in a poor neighbourhood on the outskirts of Sao Paulo. They have always dreamt of singing and performing and decide to form their own rap group, named Antonia. With a manager on the team, they are hired to local bars and at parties. But when it looks like their dreams are about to be fulfilled, the brutal realities catch up with the girls, with poverty, chauvinism and violence. Both the band and their friendship are put to a tough test. Trustworthy and well acted by the four girls with refreshing musical interludes. The film received the Audience Award during the São Paulo Int. Film Festival and an award for Best Sound Design at Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano Habana. ma
