Mocktar Dicko, a Nigerian farmer, arrives at the gold mines in northern Burkina Faso to look for work. It is possibly his feelings of guilt that have driven him there to dig for gold. Dreams of Dust is about people’s search for happiness under extreme working conditions – a physical hell with wind and dust that never end, not to speak of the constant danger of cave-ins. But there is also human compassion in this society and perhaps the solution is simply to let go a little of one’s own goals, look up and see a little further ahead, and not forget the dreams that take place in the middle of the unrelenting dust. akl
