Dry Season
16-year-old Atim seeks out his father’s murderer, Nassara the war criminal, who has opened his own bakery in Chad’s capital of N’djamena. In 2006, following the civil war in Chad, the authorities guaranteed an amnesty for all war criminals, Nassara included. In an attempt to get close to his father’s murderer, the determined Atim becomes his apprentice. While the thirst for revenge still seethes in young Atim, a special father-son relationship emerges. Through the relationship between Atim and Nassara, director Mahamet-Saleh Haoun demonstrates the consequences of civil war on an interpersonal level by exploring the urge for revenge and the importance of forgiveness to get on in life. anm
