In 1982 director Shunichi Nagasaki made the film Heart, Beating in the Dark, a dark and somewhat disturbing super 8 movie about a young couple on the run after having killed their newborn baby. Twenty years later, director and actors reunite to make a remake of or a sequel to the film. The new film alternates between the 1982 original and the work with the new film, creating a vibrant, fascinating and sexually charged play on stories on various planes. What happened really in 1982? We can guarantee that this highly original film does not resemble anything else in this year’s festival. jl
