During the last few decades, more than 30,000 people have been killed in Colombia, where the left-wing guerrilla is fighting the government and right-wing paramilitary groups. This bloody conflict is depicted in the documentary La Sierra. The film takes place in a dangerous neighbourhood where street gangs make alliances with members of each side of the conflict. This national conflict is reflected in the lives of three young characters: 22-year-old Edison "The Doll", a paramilitary commander and the neighbourhood's playboy, 17-year old Cielo, a single mum, and 19-year-old Jesus, an ardent guerrilla fighter. This is powerful material, especially when you know that not all of them will survive the making of the documentary. cvj
