The Malaysian director Yasmin Ahmad’s third film is a partly autobiographical story set in the Malaysian countryside.

The film takes place during one summer. Its protagonist, Yasmin, who comes from a culturally radical family, radical for Malaysia that is, gets a friend in the boy Mukhsin, who spends the summer in her village. Mukhsin comes from a family of violence and drinking. Told in a quiet, poetic and beautiful filmic language, this is a story of universal themes like friendship, romance and forgiveness. et
