Pleasure Factory

In Pleasure Factory, director Ekachai Uekrongtham, the director we remember from Beautiful Boxer (2003), portrays one night in Geylang, Singapore’s red light district. The film is the first that has been shot in its entirety in Geylang, and was selected for the Un Certain Regard competition at the film festival in Cannes earlier this year. The story is told from several perspectives – both from those who sell pleasure and those who seek it. The film covers a wide spectrum: everything from a teenager’s first sexual experience with a prostitute, to a girl, not yet in puberty, who is initiated into the profession by her prostitute mother. tlå
