Sleepwalking Land
During the civil war in Mosambique we meet Muidinga who flees the attacks in the company of Tuair, an elderly man. Together they look for his parents’ house. They stay in a burnt-out and looted bus along the road. In the suitcase of one of the victims of the bus massacre Muidinga finds a diary he starts to read. This helps him find his own story and the answer, perhaps, to where he actually comes from. The road they take to get away from the war leads nowhere, and to get further they therefore have to rely on imagination. Sleepwalking Land is a sweet and heart-warming story of friendship and painful memories too hard to bear. The film is based on a book by Mia Couto. akl
