The Black Pimpernel
There can be no doubt who is the hero in this engaging film. It is about Harald Edelstam, the Swedish ambassador in Chile during the military coup of 1973. Through Edelstam’s efforts more than 1300 people were saved and offered asylum in Sweden. This film is not about the coup but about a person who showed an exceptional courage in the ensuing crisis. We also follow Edelstam in his love relationship with Consuelo, an oppressed political activist. Thus the film becomes a story of courage and humaneness. It shows a man who does not act correctly all the time but is driven by conviction. The Black Pimpernel is a film about people in extreme situations. js
