Australian based filmmakers Violeta Ayala and Dan Fallshawgo to the Polisario governed refugee camps in the Algerian desert to make a film about a family reunion. They start to follow Fetim Sellami, a Saharawi refugee separated form her mother when a toddler. But the reunion reveals a secret that spirals the film into a dark world the filmmakers could never have imagined. The black Saharawis start talking about a forbidden subject: their enslavement. The filmmakers recount moments of terror when their lives were in danger as well as the hardships in getting the footage across borders. The film is guaranteed to spark intense debate: Sellami has since denounced Ayala and Fallshaw, claiming they falsely portrayed her as a slave. Political forces are at play. The perpetuation of slavery is at stake.
