We meet director Pamela Yates to a conversation about the award-winning documentaries When the Mountains Tremble (1983) and Granito (2011). Both documentaries focus on the horrific Guatemalan civil war that lasted from 1960 to 1996 and caused thousands of civilian lives. Yates captured the atrocities committed on the Maya population on camera and the footage from When the Mountains Tremble now serves as evidence in the trials against the military leaders that Granito focuses on. Yates is one of the most acclaimed documentary filmmakers of today and her films have won several awards at festivals throughout the world.
