A curious and bizarre story inspired by the life of magician Francis Bosco. In My Magic, we meet a fictionalized version of the magician, now as an alcoholic cleaner working in a nightclub. His stoic son has learned to deal with Bosco’s escapades but grief, guilt and constant inebriation have turned him into a poorly father. In order to emancipate himself and win his son’s respect, Bosco returns to his old magic tricks. In a dilapidated building, father and son try to bridge the gap between them and to reconcile with each other – through magic. Eric Khoo states that the father and son relationship in Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic novel The Road has been an inspiration for what he calls his most personal film to date. My Magic was nominated for the Golden Palm at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and Khoo has said the following about it: ”I always wanted this film to be a small, sensitive project. I didn't want to go big and be extravagant with the execution. I wanted it to be intimate, personal, and subtle.” My Magic will definitely get your adrenaline pumping, but at the bottom you’ll find a warm tale of family ties and loyalty. red
