Miss Bala

All Laura dreamt of was to be in the local beauty contest, but when she is crowned Miss Bala, the tears she cries are not of happiness, but of despair. Since signing up for the contest, she has been through a brutal and disturbing journey. She loses her friend in a massacre in a night club, and in a panic she trusts the wrong person. Reluctant and helpless, she becomes a part of the Mexican drug war. man

Gerardo Naranjo grew up in Salamanca, Mexico. Upon completing his award-winning thesis film, The Last Attack of the Beast (2002), he went on to direct the features Malachance (2003), Drama/Mex (2006), I’m Gonna Explode (2008), Revolución (2010) and Miss Bala (2011). The latter premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2011 Cannes Festival.
