Postcards from the Zoo
Magical encounters at the Zoo. Only three years old, Lana is abandoned at the Ragunan zoo in Jakarta by her father. She grows up surrounded by animals and other drifters, feeling much like the animals themselves: safe, but trapped. When she finally ventures outside the walls, Lana finds the outside world to be a lot like inside the zoo. Lana relates to the people as she does to the animals: with distance but also curiosity. Postcards from the Zoo surprises as it shifts between the meditative and the brutal.
