Violeta Went to Heaven
Chilean multi-artist Violeta Parra inspired the entire world, and 45 years after her death this award-winning biopic is ready to do the same. Parra is responsible for the renaissance of Chilean folk music, but she also fought a political battle against capitalism and American imperialism. Director Andrés Wood has created a work of art in Parra's spirit. Her music plays an important part in the film and is performed beautifully by main actress Francisca Gavilán. The non-chronological narrative and use of magical realism gives this film a distinctive quality. Violeta Went to Heaven won the Grand Jury Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and is Chile’s official selection for the Academy Awards. man
Chilean Andrés Wood has made several box office hits in his home country.
