Tropical Malady is split into two different parts that may or may not tell the same story in two different spheres. The first is up close, observing soldier Keng carefully make his move on country boy Tong, who doesn’t seem to get it. Part two is a different beast altogether. Now we approach Keng alone in the dark jungle where he is followed by a tiger that can take human form. Here the logic is closer to that of dreams and mythology, not too unlike Jodorowsky or Lynch. As you can imagine, the end result is quite unlike anything else you might have seen before; as if you had been transported into the world of a Henri Rousseau painting, but as painted with the impressionist touches of a Claude Monet. gil
