Wajma: An Afghan Love Story
A young couple explore love in an Afghanistan still marked by tradition and strict social and moral control. Young student Wajma is charmed by the waiter Mustafa, and the two begin a secret affair. The relationship between unmarried men and women is still strictly regulated in Afghanistan, and when the affair results in Wajma becoming pregnant, the consequences are severe. There is something bittersweet about the title Wajma - An Afghan Love Story, which is also reflected in Wajma’s character as she goes from heady infatuation to raw desperation. A nuanced and engaging portrait of an Afghanistan torn between modernity and tradition. akek
