Eréndira
Eréndira is Brazilian Ruy Guerra's adaptation of Márquez’ short story with the same name. The film is an epic tale of the eternally relevant topics of freedom, power and slavery.
We follow teenage girl Eréndira, who lives with her sadistic grandmother in an unidentifiable desert area. One day, Eréndira accidentally burns down her grandmother's house. Now homeless, they go on a journey to try to find an income. Eréndira is soon forced into prostitution, and this is the start of a series of ups, downs and fateful encounters in her life.
Guerra leans towards the narrative techniques of comedy, surrealism and psychoanalysis. ss
