I Am a Girl
Screened in The Critical Room - the festival’s forum for film and debate, and as part of our celebration of The International Day of the Girl.
Being born a girl means that you are more likely to be subjected to violence, disease, poverty, and disadvantage than any other group on the planet. We follow six girls from across the globe in their daily life, sharing their struggles and challenges as they are about to step into womanhood. Presented not as victims of society, but members of an unfair one, we see the strength and resilience of these girl as they try to carve out their own identities, within societies that are determined to dictate their roles to them. After the screening director Rebecca Barry, Line Hegna from Save the Children, junior advisor for Plan, Vilde Brunvoll and Ethiopian women’s rights activist Meaza Ashenafi will discuss the challenges that girls around the world face today, and what we can do here in Norway to promote girl’s rights. The discussion is led by Ragnhild Nordvik from Norwegian Centre for Human Rights.
