It is 1984. Estela lives in Sao Paulo with her parents and her younger brother. Together with her ​​friends she lives a normal teenage life, filled with challenges, joys and dreams. The biggest dream of them all, a journey to California and her uncle Carlos, is approaching. When her uncle instead returns to Brazil, Estela’s life takes a different turn. New challenges are standing in line.

California is a film about dreams, life and growing up. Visually the film is characterized by long takes and slow ramps, which together with close-ups gives the story a realistic feeling. Dark contrasting colors and a nostalgic soundtrack characterize the film's expression and becomes a wonderful take on of the innocence of youth .

Marina Person (born 1969) is a director and actor, born in Sao Paulo Brazil . She works as a VJ and producer for MTV Brazil. California is her first feature film. Previously she directed the documentary Person (2007).
