Jonas Cuaron’s Desierto is a classic thriller, yet different - it's a genre film with a social conscience. Desierto is a story about hunter and prey. The hunters are white American vigilantes who carry out their own war on the United States border to stop illegal immigration - equipped with a rifle and a perverted sense of patriotism, they hunt for desperate migrants seeking a better life north of the border. South of the border, we meet a group of Mexicans trying to get into the United States. When their car breaks down, they must embark on foot into the desert where the hunter awaits the prey.

Moises (Gael García Bernal) is the Good Samaritan in the group. He protects and helps those struggling in the scorching desert landscape. The group faces a variety of physical challenges - stifling heat and dehydration, but none of them could have foreseen the threat from Sam (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). He is a deranged vigilante, determined to protect his country from what he perceives as America's enemies. He hunts for immigrants from his car equipped with a South State flag, and with his longtime friend and killing machine – the dog Tracker. They track up and kill the immigrants one by one. After Sam's first attack, Moises becomes the leader of the immigrant group. Desperate, they try to outrun and outwit the pursuer.

Desierto is brutal film that puts the discussion of immigration to the United States on the tip and shows the frustration and blind anger among the extreme right wing-people - and the desperation of people who do not want anything other than to seek a better life.
