Tibak tells the story of the Kabataang Makabayan (Patriotic Youth), a militant youth organization that excelled in struggling against the US and the Marcos regime in the 70’s and 80’s and generated a successful armed revolutionary movement against the fascist dictatorship. When democracy was reinforced in 1986, many left the movement, but a number of people stayed to fight for a national liberation from foreign imperialism and from a corrupt national elite - and for a genuine democracy with social justice. Tibak is the story of young men and women who took that path, their take on love of country and service to their countrymen committed to burning the flames of what they believed to be as unfinished revolution.

Peace negotiations have been on and off for 30 years. The Royal Norwegian Government has been the facilitator of said peace negotiations since 2001. In Oslo in August 2016, an agreement was made about issues that have stagnated the progress for many years. On October 6-10, both parties will meet in Oslo to negotiate social and economical reforms.

Jose Maria Sison, activist and founder of the youth orginization, will be present when the biographical film Tibak is screened on October 10th. He's invited to talk about the film.
