Ash
After a dead body is found in a cinema theatre, the police officer in charge of the case immediately accuses the step-son of the dead man but he unable to prove anything. Ten years later the case is still unsolved, but one day the officer, Chen Weikun, makes a discovery that prompts him to pick up the investigation. As viewers we jump back and forth in time, learning what led to the crime and how it connects to another seemingly random murder. A tense and dark crime drama, Ash creates a creepy atmosphere, and tells a fascinating story of guilt, revenge and morality through magnificently beautiful images.
Li Xiaofeng (b. 1978) studied film at Hogeschool Sint-Lukas in Brussels. After returning to China, he has worked as a critic, published short stories, and directed several documentaries. His first fiction feature film, the coming-of-age-story Nezha (2014), won several awards at the renowned Golden Horse-festival in Taiwan. Ash is his second feature film.
