The Angel

Meet "Babyface" Carlito, whom in his own eyes was born to be a crook. At the age of 17, he makes acquaintance with Ramón, an elegant kid who punches Carlito's nose in and therefore comes across as a perfect partner in crime. Together they set out on a violent robbery spree that gives Carlito a second nickname: "The Angel of Death". This polished thriller is inspired by the life and story of Carlos Robledo Puch, an Argentinian serial killer. With phenomenal acting, and co-produced by Spanish stylist Pedro Almodóvar, this is true crime for the big screen. LS

Luis Ortega (b. 1980) is a director and screenwriter from Argentina. He studied film at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires and has directed four feature films in addition to short films, docs and TV series. The Angel screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes film festival this spring.
