Midnight Family
Mexico City has 9 million inhabitants, but only 45 ambulances in public service. Midnight Family is a gripping and darkly humorous film about one of the private enterprises that tries to take advantage of this situasjon, the Ochoa family. They survive by running a privat ambulance, in a market that is fiercely competitive. This means that, in their search for the next customer, they listen to the police radio and chase accidents, often resulting in situations that are menacingly dangerous. Midnight Family is a tour de force of cinematography, editing and sound design. The camera is often placed inside the ambulance, recording different moods and modulations, and drawing a portrait of a family that works ceaselessly to be able put food on the table.
Luke Lorentzen (b. 1993) lives in Brooklyn, New York, and graduated from studies in Art History at the Stanford University. Midnight Family is his first feature-length documentary. He previously directed a documentary short, Santa Cruz del Islote (2014), a portrait of a family of fishermen in Colombia.
