On the Inside of a Military Dictatorship
This film is the story about how the military regimes in Myanmar instiagted a process of democratisation in which their old enemy, and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Aung San Suu Kyi, was to play a major role. The two parties both have means to control the other: the military with their power over resources, and Aung San Suu Kyi with her politial movement and power over the people. Both have to make compromises. But how do you build peace and democracy from scratch, after 50 years of dictatorship, in a country divided along political and religious lines?
