Euridice is talented and dreams of becoming concert pianist. Guida is outgoing and sexually adcenturous. The two sisters share an intimate friendship, but they are being held down by their father as well as by other men who want to control them, and eventually they are kept apart for years against their will. The Invisible Life of Euridice Gusmao is based on a novel by the Brazilian author Martha Balath which was published to rave reviews in 2017. The film is just as captivating: it is a flamboyant, beautiful, and seductive melodrama that shifts from the mellow to the passionate in its depiction of lives lived in disappointment and despair. However, it is also a celebration of female solidarity and resistance.
