The Sales Girl

The alluring owner of a sex shop, Katya, takes Saruul under her wings in this beautiful drama about sexuality and womanhood.

Saruul is studying to become a nuclear engineer in Ulan Bator, Mongolia, but is equally passionate about painting. She lives with her parents and a younger brother. One day, a fellow student asks Saruul if she can work as a salesperson in a store where she works, as she has broken her leg. The store she is supposed to work in sells adult toys, and some strange situations arise in connection with this. The owner of the store, Katya, is a colorful person, and they become friends who also have arguments. Eventually, Saruul wants to shape her own life, and after a situation with her parents, she follows her own dreams and not those of others.

Sengedorj Janchivdorj (b. 1976) is a Mongolian filmmaker based in Ulan Bator, and is educated as a director from the Mongolian University of Arts and Culture. He is known for the films Oxygen (2010), Trapped Abroad (2014), and One Life of Two Women (2015). He has also worked in theater.
