Santosh
A highly engaging drama-thriller from India! Santosh inherits her late husband's job as a police constable in a small town in the north of the country. When a young girl is found dead, she is drawn into a power struggle within the police force.
The new job gives her a new position in society and brings with it a previously absent power. In addition, it gives Santosh a better understanding of how the judicial system actually works, permeated by corruption, sexism, and caste-related prejudice. Santosh is an intense thriller that draws on film noir traditions while shedding light on problematic conditions in modern-day India. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
«As Santosh closes in on the suspect, who has absconded for another town, Suri’s film embraces the nail-biting aesthetics — dark and shadowy locales, heart-racing music — of a classic procedural.»
