Googoosh - Made of Fire

Googoosh was Iran’s first pop star and was loved by everyone. But in 1979, during the Islamic Revolution, her career came to a complete halt.

This documentary is a powerful portrait of one of Iran’s most iconic stars. Faegheh Atashin, better known as Googoosh, was beloved both at home and abroad, filling stadiums long before Western superstars like Madonna and Beyoncé. In the film, she speaks about her life on stage and her existence after the revolution, when she was no longer allowed to perform. The result is both a personal portrait and a reflection of the broader oppression of women in Iran.

Iranian Music Evening at Vika

On Monday, NOV 10, there will be an evening of Iranian music at Vika Kino. The director of GOOGOOSH – MADE IN FIRE will be present at the film screening, and DJ Daeva will play in Vikakjelleren from 19:00.
