Hung-i Chen
Chen Hung-i graduated from the Department of Philosophy at National Taiwan University. He is a well-known director of commercials and music videos. His latest feature, Fish Memories (2024), won Best Cinematography at the Golden Horse Awards and Best Art Direction at the Taipei Film Festival.
Since 2008, Chen has garnered international acclaim for his dramatic feature films. His film As We Like It (2021) was selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam and screened at over thirty international film festivals. The Last Painting (2017) won the Golden Award at Cines del Sur and received nominations at IFFR. His 2014 film, Honey Pupu (2012) received awards for Best Director, Best Female Lead, Best Cinematography, and Best Music at the Taipei Film Festival, as well as the Special Jury Recommendation Award at the Fribourg International Film Festival. Candy Rain (2009) won Best Costume Design at the Golden Horse Awards.
Chen is skilled at integrating visuals and design, characterized by a poignant and unique personal narrative style. His films often explore themes of love, desire, and eroticism within Taiwanese culture, continually challenging audiences’ habits of perception.
