Jafar Panahi

Jafar Panahi is one of the leading Iranian filmmakers of our time, known for The White Balloon (1995), The Circle (2000), Offside (2006), Taxi Tehran (2015), 3 Faces (2018), and No Bears (2022). His films have garnered widespread international acclaim and numerous awards at major film festivals. Panahi’s work combines a neorealist aesthetic with sharp humor and social criticism, often focusing on the situation of Iranian women. Despite being officially banned from filmmaking since 2010 and subjected to periods of house arrest, he has continued to create and share his films. His latest film, It Was Just An Accident, was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Palme d’Or.
